If you could read my mind. . .

“If you could ready my mind, love, what a tale my thoughts could tell. . .”
So wrote Gordon Lightfoot in his classic song from 1970.
Telepathy is defined as the transfer of thoughts from one mind to another without speaking. We may have had the experience of being so in tune with another person that we can finish their sentences, or know what they are going to say before they say it. . .

but is that really telepathy or just knowing someone so well that you can anticipate
what they will say or do in a particular situation?
When I teach Reiki classes, I stress to students the importance of remaining present with the client while sending Reiki to them, whether it is in person or long-distance.
In my experience, thoughts can be transmitted along with the energy and in a case where one person is opening up energetically, such as receiving a massage or Reiki session, the transfer of thoughts can go either way especially when both people are
empathetic or sensitive.
It can be an issue if the practitioner is upset about something or is focused on something other than the person on their table.
I had an experience very early on in my 40 year career as a bodyworker and lightworker that exemplified this to me so strongly that I’ve never forgotten the lesson and often share this story with my students.
I was a very new massage therapist and was working later into the evening in a chiropractor’s office. A young woman I had not met before had booked a session and I got her settled in on the table after we chatted briefly.
I was a bit tired and began to think about what I needed to do following the massage appointment. . .hadn’t eaten dinner, needed to go to the Laundromat and wash massage sheets and remembered with dismay that I was out of laundry detergent.
My mental energy was not focused on the woman on my table, my thoughts were a mess of,
“I hate the Laundromat. It’s late. I’m hungry. And, oh NO, I have to go to Safeway first and buy laundry detergent! This is going to take all night!”
My client seemed to be relaxed and drifting off, unaware of my mental turmoil.
When an hour was up, I gently asked her how she was doing, she opened her eyes and said, “Good…I fell asleep. But I was having these weird dreams about laundry detergent!”
I know I looked shocked but said nothing. I’m sure that Spirit gave me this experience in the very beginning of my career so that I could train myself properly to keep my thoughts clear while I was working.
This was so specific that it could not be written off as coincidence.
This transfer of thoughts can go both ways, and I have had the sometimes uncomfortable experience of ‘hearing’ a client’s thoughts or getting visuals of what they were thinking of during a session.
Even if one does not get specific thoughts/words in a telepathic transference, it’s also very easy to pick up on energy and feel if someone is angry or ill.
I invite my Reiki students and others who do this kind of work, to share any experiences you may have had in the Comment Section!
